2002-2003:

Develop a BSLS Library Technology Plan that assures all school library media centers are automated by 2006 and includes maximizing member libraries' access, retrieval, and delivery of print, electronic, and digital information resources.

2002-2003:

  • Establish a core BSLS Technology Planning Team
  • Team will draft plan that integrates EDL standards and WNYLRC Regional Library Automation Plan into BSLS Library Technology Plan
  • Team will review the current district-wide library automation program and its compliance with NYS and regional automation policies and programs
  • BSLS will review and approve plan

2002-2003:

Local holdings would be made electronically available/accessible for sharing.

Resource sharing within the district will be improved.

Compatibility and integration with WNYLRC's five-year regional automation plan will be ensured.

2003-2004:
Implement BSLS Library Technology Plan that assures all school library media centers are automated by 2006 and includes maximizing member libraries' access, retrieval, and delivery of print, electronic, and digital information resources.

2003-2004:

  • Determine if current district-wide automation system is Z39.50, v.3, BATH profile and ISO ILL standard compliant
  • Select and implement a real-time union catalog that is Z39.50, v.3, BATH profile, and ISO ILL standard compliant
  • Determine need and pursue funding for retrospective conversion
  • Appropriate funds for a regional library automation consultant· Modify and review automation policies and procedures

2003-2004:

Local holdings would be made electronically available/accessible for sharing.

Resource sharing within the district will be improved.

Compatibility and integration with WNYLRC's five-year regional automation plan will be ensured.

2004-2005:
Continue implementing BSLS Library Technology Plan that assures all school library media centers are automated by 2006 and includes maximizing member libraries' access, retrieval, and delivery of print, electronic, and digital information resources.

2004-2005:
Explore centralized cataloging to ensure accuracy and uniformity of records across the region.

2004-2005:

Local holdings would be made electronically available/accessible for sharing.

Resource sharing within the district will be improved.

Compatibility and integration with WNYLRC's five-year regional automation plan will be ensured.

2005-2006:
Continue implementing BSLS Library Technology Plan that assures all school library media centers are automated by 2006 and includes maximizing member libraries' access, retrieval, and delivery of print, electronic, and digital information resources.

2005-2006:

  • Implement centralized cataloging· Evaluate automation program and make recommendations for further changes and/or enhancements
  • Appropriate funds for a regional library automation consultant
  • Establish a task force to work with consultant to investigate new automation products, determining the hardware, software and connectivity needs of each member library so that each school will be able to fully participate in the BSLS Technology Plan
  • Task force will conduct a cost-benefit analysis of each automation software package based on the efficacy of housing a new automation system within the district on the vendor's server
  • BSLS will pursue funding for implementation
  • Evaluate automation system in light of the strategic plans of both state and region, developing recommendations for the next five-year Plan of Service.

2005-2006:

Local holdings would be made electronically available/accessible for sharing.

Resource sharing within the district will be improved.

Compatibility and integration with WNYLRC's five-year regional automation plan will be ensured.
